Unraveling the Mystery of Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder.  A mother's Story of Research & Recovery.  By Karyn Seroussi.---This mom is a pioneer in the Biomedical movement.  Her journey is a lesson in the theory and rational behind biomedical interventions.  

Nourishing Hope, Nutrition Intervention for Autism Specturm Disorders.  By Julie Matthews Certified Nutrition Consultant.  A fantastic resource for diet, supplments and biomedical explainations.  This book has very helpful tables and is organized well.   This book is available on her website.  http://www.nourishinghope.com/

The Kid-Friendly ADHD & Autism Cookbook. The Ultimate Guide to the Gluten-Free, Casein Free-Diet.  By Pamela J. Compart M.D. and Dana Laake, R.D.H., MS, L.D.N.---Simple and great explanations of the diet.   This book is also ideal for helping relatives learn about the diet

Special Diets for Special Kids & Special Diets for Special Kids Two.   By Lisa Lewis, Ph.D.   Probably the most popular gfcf cookbook and one might even call it the bible of gfcf cooking.   Lisa Lewis can often be seen lecturing at autism conferences. 

Gluten & Casein Free Cooking. from GFCFDiet.com.  Compilation of recipes from parents cooking gfcf.  Many great holiday ideas with a diversity of recipes. 

Living Without.  A magazine for people with food allergies and sensitivites.  Available at Sprouts, Whole foods and www.LivingWithout.com.   Very helpful articles such as traveling with food allergies and restraunt guides.  The  Spet 2008 issues has an article about special diets for the treatment of autism.  Coupons for gluten free foods are in many of the issues. 

 

Books for Children on and off the Spectrum

I am Utterly Unique. Celebrating the Strengths of Children with Asperger Syndrome and High-Functioning Autism.  By Elaine Mare Larson.---An A-Z look at the many traits that can be seen with children on the spectrum.  A nice book for children to identify and discuss things about themself.

Out to get Jack. By James Williams.   An amazing comic novel written by James Williams when he was thirteen.  James has autism and spoke at the ASA conference in 2007 in Scottsdale AZ.   Great for kids and adults who want to view autism from the perspective of an eleven year old.  Extremely insightful.
